Prom Dresses - from Trashy to Classy
According to Teen Vogue magazine, prom dresses this year are less overtly sexy and more glamorous, "there is a move from trashy to classy" said Jane Keltner, fashion news editor.
"Fashion is a cycle and we hit a point where we got as sexy as we really could," said Tara McBratney, fashion director for CosmoGirl! magazine. "Right now, the cycle is in the luxury and glamor side and that translates in every part of the market -- including prom."
An article in the Chicago Sun-Times concludes that prom dresses are following the "celebrity line" as seen at the Academy Awards - vintage-style princess dresses that emphasise class. "Those headbands that Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson wore are in this year for prom," Keltner said.
Other looks in this year include fishtail dresses and colors.
"This year is about really bright colors," McBratney said. "Really, really bright colors like yellow, orange and purple are popular."
The good news for boys is that they don't have to match their dates' colors. That's not cool this year, McBratney said.

Teen Vogue also suggests: "Have fun with jewelry. Pile on the costume pearls -- long strands, short strands or both. You can find inexpensive pearls at a thrift store or costume jewelry shop. Brooches are great to pin not just on your dress, but also to a bag or in your hair.
Headbands add a feminine and whimsical touch to this year's prom look. You can simply tie a bow in your hair or, for a more dramatic goddess look, try a shimmery headband.
Metallic shoes. Slingback, strappy metallic heels go with every dress and will add a touch of sparkle to your look. Don't fall into the trap of dyeing shoes to match a dress".
